Building Entry Card Reader (Badge) Data Cleansing in Excel


Goal: To format and prepare the badge data for analysis

 

Question

How often are departments accessing various buildings on campus throughout the day?


Process

Badge data from a healthcare client was cleaned utilizing Excel to remove unnecessary header information, blank rows, and columns. Additional columns were added to allow the data to be filtered

by the hour of the day to limit analysis to a typical workday and day of the week to allow the exclusion of weekends from reporting.


Tools Used

  • Excel (Formulas including IF, DATEVALUE, HOUR, and VLOOKUP)
